KINGWOOD, W.Va. — The Preston County Board of Education has officially selected a new member to take over for a recently vacated seat on the board.
Beth Noss was selected out of eight potential candidates as part of a special meeting hosted by the Preston County BOE on Wednesday. Superintendent Brad Martin spoke highly about the new appointee who will take over the spot held by Shelley Miller, who announced her resignation from the board two weeks ago.
“Mrs. Noss is heavily involved in the community soccer initiatives throughout the county,” said Martin. “She’s just always been very active working with the youth in the county.”
Noss is a longtime Preston County resident who has been active in several different aspects of after-school life for Preston County students.
According to Martin, Noss has been a prominent member of the Preston County Youth Soccer community, where she has headed or been involved in various organizations supporting local involvement in the sport for several years. With Nass previously running for a school board seat back in 2022 and her familiarity with after-school activities in the Preston County area, Martin feels the Preston County BOE made a good decision.
“Mrs. Noss, I can speak to, is involved in the community soccer initiatives and has coordinated the Preston Soccer Association for a number of years,” said Martin. “She’s just always been very active.”
The selection of Noss took place as a result of the resignation of Shelley Miller due to personal reasons. This decision was accepted by the Preston County BOE during their regular meeting on March 10, with the application period starting shortly afterward. Once the applicants were accepted, the board was adamant in making sure the seat was filled in a timely manner to avoid leaving the seat vacant for any long period of time.
“About two weeks ago, Shelley Miller resigned her board seat, and that resignation was accepted at the, I believe, the March 10th meeting of the board,” said Martin. “The board at that point also established their procedural processes to fill that vacancy.”
Noss will fill the vacancy on a temporary basis with the term set to expire on June 30, 2026. The remaining two years of the term will be determined in the next primary election in Preston County, which is scheduled to take place in 2026. With the vacated seat now filled with a member of the Preston County community who is active in Preston County School System life, Martin feels the board is ready to move forward towards issues that might affect county schools down the road.
“This is a temporary situation, the vacancy is being filled through June 30th of 2026,” said Martin. “The remaining two years of that term will actually be on the primary election next spring.”
