KCCI's Scott Reister was first to break the news.Henderson will replace Ben McCollum after McCollum left to take the job at Iowa earlier this week.Henderson, who has spent the last six seasons as the head coach at South Dakota State, has plenty of Iowa ties.A native of the northeast Iowa town of Coggon, Henderson played his college basketball at Wayne State (Neb.) under then-coach Greg McDermott and became a graduate manager for the Cyclones from 2006-08 when McDermott was at Iowa State. Henderson then arrived at South Dakota State as an assistant under T.J. Otzelberger before Otzelberger, now the Iowa State head coach, departed for UNLV.“My family and I are elated to join Drake Nation,” Henderson said in Drake's announcement about the hire. “Early on in this process it became evident that values and vision aligned with the incredible path President Martin and Brian Hardin have already established. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity they have given me and my family to walk that path with them. The excitement for Drake basketball is at an all-time high, and I’m looking forward to building relationships and representing such a committed university and fan base.
