Finland condoles at quake victims in Myanmar, Thailand

Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on Friday expressed profound shock at the deaths of people in the earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life at least in Myanmar and Thailand caused by the major earthquake in Myanmar today (Friday). The effects of the earthquake are felt widely in the region and our thoughts are with those affected,” Valtonen wrote in a post on her social media platform X.

At least 144 people were killed and 732 injured in Myanmar after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake jolted the country on Friday, the Information Team of Myanmar's State Administration Council reported.

Myanmar's State Administration Council Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said that the deaths included 96 from the capital Nay Pyi Taw, 18 from Sagaing and 30 from Kyaukse, according to the report.

At least 10 people were killed in Bangkok, Thailand in the earthquake.
