Legarda underscores PH–France economic cooperation
Senator Loren Legarda reaffirmed her support for stronger Philippines-France collaboration in advancing a sustainable economy.
She made this move at today’s dialogue called ‘Strengthening Philippines–France Cooperation for a Sustainable Blue Economy’ held at New World Makati Hotel in Makati City.
Legarda is the principal author and sponsor of the proposed measure titled Blue Economy Act.
“Our blue economy is more than a policy direction. It is a moral and developmental imperative,” the senator said.
“It is the lifeblood of our coastal communities, a driver of growth and a safeguard for our planet’s future,” she added.
In her speech, Legarda also highlighted the Philippines’ vast maritime domain of 2.2 million square kilometers and its rich ecological and economic potential.
She noted that the ocean economy contributed over P787 billion annually from 2018 to 2022 and sustained over 2.2 million jobs.
The event was co-organized by the Stratbase Institute and the Embassy of France in the Philippines.
