Hayden Reed’s two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning and Landon Turman’s pitching led the way for the Abingdon Falcons in their 5-3 baseball win over the Bearden Bulldogs in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Friday night.
Landon Turman struck out nine in pitching five scoreless innings, while Elijah Parks and Jett Humphreys polished off the six-hitter.
Humphreys also had two hits, while Parks hit a double.
Charlie Loftin struck out five over five innings for Bearden, which is 13-4.
Abingdon (4-0) plays at Powell today at 1:30 p.m.

Wise County Central 12, Gate City 11
Jaron Wyatt scored on an error with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Wise County Central Warriors a thrilling Mountain 7 District victory over Gate City on Friday night.
Central (4-0) overcame 9-1 and 11-8 deficits in the triumph. The team also continued to productively swing the bats as the Warriors are averaging 14.5 runs per game.
The fateful seventh inning played out like this: error, RBI triple by Wyatt, intentional walk, intentional walk, error.
“Super proud of our guys,” said Central coach Kelly Foster. “We are a young group but play old. They are gritty and tough and will not quit. It didn’t look real good for most of the game but their attitudes never wavered in that they believed that we would win. They got it done.”
Wyatt (2-for-4, two RBIs), Ethan Foster (three RBIs), Shawn Phillips (three RBIs), Isaiah Bentley (2-for-4, two runs, two walks), Gabe Thompson (three RBIs) and Jackson Willey (2-for-3, two runs) also performed well at the plate.
Dakoda McMurray went 4-for-5 with four RBIs for Gate City (2-2), while Dylan Carter collected two hits.
There was a combined 23 runs, 23 hits, seven errors, 14 walks and 12 strikeouts.
Wise County Central plays at Virginia High today at 1 p.m. It will be a rematch of a first-round Region 2D tournament game in 2024, which was won by Central.
Lebanon 5, Sullivan East 2
Nathan “Tater” Phillips pitched a gem as the Lebanon Pioneers earned a win at Sullivan East.
A Mount St. Mary’s University signee, Phillips surrendered two runs – none of which were earned – on three hits, while not issuing a walk and striking out seven in an 86-pitch masterpiece.
“Tater threw the ball well tonight,” said Lebanon coach Cody Compton. “He pitched with confidence.”
Phillips also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Eli Breeding (2-for-2, two walks, two runs), Isaiah Godsey (two RBIs) and Booker Steffey (2-for-3) also were catalysts as Lebanon beat a team from Northeast Tennessee for the second straight day. The Pioneers posted a 5-2 triumph over Tennessee High on Thursday.
Zach Johnson, Jonah Smith and Kaden Hicks had the hits for East (6-8), with Smith and Hicks scoring the team’s runs.
Chilhowie 14, Marion 2
Brandon Miller (3-for-3, two doubles, three runs, three RBIs) and Jayden Schwartz (3-for-4, four RBIs) led the way for the Chilhowie Warriors in their win over Smyth County rival Marion.
Dawson Tuell and Noah Hill added two hits apiece with Hill driving in three runs. Winning pitcher Brent Kilbourne crafted a complete-game five-hitter.
Mason Pugh had two hits and scored a run for Marion, while Sean Stuart and Corbin Bade drove in the runs for the Scarlet Hurricanes.
Twin Springs 16, Northwood 6
Kalub Mullins had two hits and three RBIs as the Twin Springs Titans continued their high-scoring ways in a non-district win over Northwood.
Xavier Sawyer, Clay Ross and Jacob Finch also had two hits apiece, while Colton Johnson and Logan Gorman each tallied two RBIs.
Jason McCall and Dawson Prater each scored two runs for Northwood, while Colt Stevenson had two RBIs.
The game featured a combined 10 errors, 19 strikeouts and 23 walks.
Rye Cove 14-3, Jenkins (Ky.) 0-1
Hagan Rhoton and Cole Barnette each pitched a three-inning one-hitter as Rye Cove swept a doubleheader from the Jenkins Cavaliers of Kentucky.
Rhoton, Landon Lane, Will Rollins and Zach Lane each had two hits in the 14-0 opening win for the Eagles (4-3), while Barnette, Landon Lane and Rollins scored the runs in the 3-1 victory in the nightcap.
West Ridge 12, Chuckey-Doak 2
Parker Senn went 3-for-4 and scored two runs as the West Ridge Wolves crushed Chuckey-Doak.
Kade Oliver, Brayden Barr and Ryker Hann each had two hits, while Braxton Rasnake drove in two runs. Dale Martin pitched a four-hitter.
Rural Retreat 8, Eastside 7
Jay Snavely went 3-for-4, scored three runs and tallied two RBIs as the Rural Retreat Indians edged Eastside for a non-district victory.
Hunter Rollyson (3-for-3, three RBIs), Trever Shelton (2-for-3, two RBIs) and Zach Herndon (two hits) also played well for Rural Retreat.
Freshman Landon Pannell homered for Eastside, while Phil Clay, Jed McCoy and Keldan Hamilton each had two hits.
Graham 6, Galax 3
Brayden Woolridge and Chaun Dowell each had two hits as the Graham G-Men prevailed.
John Battle 14, Ridgeview 4
Elijah Childress went 3-for-3, scored three runs and drove in three runs and Porter Gobble pitched a four-hitter as the John Battle Trojans rocked Ridgeview for a six-inning Mountain 7 District victory.
Casey Rector had a homer among his two hits for the Trojans (2-1), while Noah Hill went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Carter Helton had two hits and scored two runs in Battle’s 14-hit barrage. Gobble also had two hits, while striking out 10 and walking one.
Colin Hill scored two runs for Ridgeview, while Brant Mullins, Xander Wallace and Jordan Castle drove in runs for the Wolfpack.
Harlan County (Ky.) 5, Lee High 3
Aiden Craig had two hits as the Harlan County Black Bears bopped Lee High.
Cade Troutman and Chase Weston had RBIs for Lee, while Troutman, Jacob Leonard and Luke Mullins scored the runs for the Generals.

Abingdon 18, West Geauga (Ohio) 3
Gate City transfer Ada Gillenwater struck out 10 and walked three in pitching a no-hitter as Abingdon won at a tournament in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
Brenna Green (4-for-4, four RBIs) and Scout Summit (3-for-4) homered against Loyola, while Mariah Branscomb’s three hits and three RBIs were also notable.
Lauren Baker, Maggie Crabtree and Muriel Dillow each had two hits for the Falcons in the win over West Geauga.
Abingdon plays in the event today at 9 a.m.
Graham 22, Council 1
Abby Houchins went 5-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs as the Graham G-Girls crushed Council.
Riley Harvey also went 5-for-5 and she drove in four runs. Bella Kaklis and Stevie Sparks each went 4-for-4 with Abby Milam mashed a home run as part of the offensive onslaught.
Megan Hess went 2-for-2 for Council, while Bailey Keen scored for the run for the Cobras.
Twin Springs 5, Union 0
Makenzie Gillenwater pitched a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts as Twin Springs held Union scoreless.
Sophie Scalf hit a three-run homer in the second inning and Aubrey Meade went 3-for-3 as the Titans (5-1) avenged an earlier loss to the U.
Aliyah Davidson had the lone hit for Union.
John Battle 5, Ridgeview 1
Hannah Lockhart and Parker Elton each had two hits as the John Battle Trojans topped previously unbeaten Ridgeview for a Mountain 7 District victory.
Kloe Webb had two RBIs, while winning pitcher Taylor Childress struck out 10.
Ridgeview (5-1) received three hits from Ava Stanley, who scored the Wolfpack’s only run. Maddie Fleming and Kinsley Barton each had two hits in the setback.
Chilhowie 15, Marion 1
Anna Ramirez had herself a night with two home runs – including a grand slam – with six RBIs as the Chilhowie Warriors mashed Marion and improved to 6-0.
Lexi Williams (three hits) and Madi Preston (two hits) also homered, while Emmaline Dowell and Denessa Martin finished with two hits apiece.
Chilhowie finished with 14 hits to back pitcher Kylee Dancy, who struck out eight.
Suzanna Barker had two hits for Marion.

The Patrick Henry Rebels had struggle generating offense in dropping a pair of games in the Eastman Invitational in Kingsport.
PH managed just one hit against a pair of Jo Byrns pitchers with it coming off the bat of Abbey Widener.
The Rebels did not have a hit at all against Alcoa’s Kaylea Osborne. University of Tennessee commit Halle Bailey homered for Alcoa.
Dobyns-Bennett 10, Castlewood 0
Cookeville 6, Castlewood 1
The Castlewood Blue Devils suffered two losses on Friday at the Eastman Invitational in Kingsport.
Kaylee Ervin had the only hit for the Blue Devils against Dobyns-Bennett.
Anna Summers and Charleigh Hall each had two hits for Castlewood against Cookeville with Hall scoring the lone run on an RBI single from Summers.
Wise County Central 17, Macon-East (Ala.) 6
Wise County Central 17, Cloudland 1
The Wise County Central Warriors walloped the opposition at the Eastman Invitational in Kingsport.
Chloe Wells, Abigail Potter, Kaelyn Dales, Peyton Lane, Sophia Fleming and Spencer Shortt all homered in the win over Macon-East. Dales and Fleming each had four RBIs.
Wells and Dales went yard against Cloudland as Dales and Adele Dingus each tallied three RBIs.
Macon-East (Ala.) 12, Tennessee High 11
Halls 1, Tennessee High 0
The Tennessee High Vikings dropped both their games in the Eastman Invitational on Friday.
Macon-East overcame an 11-6 deficit to earn a walk-off win over THS. Kaylie Hughes, Brooklyn Fuel, Nila Proffitt and Macie Strouth each had two hits against Macon-East, while Abby Haga smashed a three-run homer in the first inning.
The Vikings (5-9) managed just one hit against Atiana Stamper in the loss to Halls as it came courtesy of a single from Macie Strouth.
The loss to Halls marked the ninth straight game for Tennessee High without the services of standout Carly Compton. Team officials did not provide a comment when seeking comment about her roster status.
Greenbrier 9, Tazewell 0
Greeneville 7, Tazewell 5
The Tazewell Bulldogs dropped both their games in the Eastman Invitational in Kingsport on Friday.
Haley Reynolds and Brooke Jordan had the only hits for the Bulldogs against Greenbrier, while Jordan had two hits and Reynolds drove in two runs against Greeneville.

Alcoa 8, West Ridge 0
The West Ridge Wolves did not score a run on Friday during the Eastman Invitational in Kingsport.
The Wolves had just three hits against Crockett and two of those came from Caydene Spears.
West Ridge had only two hits against Alcoa as Kami Clark and Elliana Goodwin had those.

Luke Odum scored two goals as the John Battle Trojans rolled past Richlands for a non-district win.
Abram Waddle, Graham Wiles, Brason Hayes and Ethan Mullins also scored for the Trojans. Wiles, Zach Poe and Xander Hayden dished ut assists.
Abingdon 9, Lee High 2
Mason Solien’s three goals were tops for Abingdon as the Falcons flew past Lee High for a Mountain 7 District triumph.
Gate City 7, Wise County Central 0
Walker Hillman and Keegan Bright each scored two goals the Gate City Blue Devils whopped Wise County Central in Mountain 7 District play.
Honaker 8, Ridgeview 0
Thomas Ball scored four goals and also dished out two assists as the Honaker Tigers trounced Ridgeview.
Jaxon Dye’s three goals and two assists also merit mentioning.

Lauren Reeves scored two goals as the Wise County Central Warriors improved to 4-0 with a Mountain 7 District triumph.
Alexandra Onate’s goal, Bella Newberry’s assist and goalkeeper Harley Jett’s eight saves were also vital to the victory.

Goalkeeper McKenzie Lowe had another shutout as the talented Tigers of Honaker rocked Ridgeview.
Kiley Musick (five goals) and Julia Barton (three goals) did the scoring for Honaker.
