BYD’s premium Yangwang brand is expanding its lineup with the launch of the high-performance U7 sedan, showcasing cutting-edge technology and impressive specifications.

The U7 is Yangwang’s third model after the water-floating U8 SUV and dancing U9 supercar.

The U7 sedan will be a four-door, five-seater nearly 5.3 meters long, with quad motors producing 956 kW (1,282 hp) and 1,584 Nm of torque.

Yangwang U7 offers 135.5 kWh battery and long range

The 1,300 hp Yangwang U7 comes with a 135.5 kWh battery, offering a CLTC range of 720 km (447 miles). While the official price will be announced on March 27, BYD describes it as a “million-yuan” class car, roughly around $138,000, CarNewsChina reported.

The brand’s first vehicle, the U8 off-road SUV, debuted in September 2023, with a starting price of around $150,000. Last year, BYD also launched the Yangwang U9 electric supercar, which outperforms a Ferrari in speed.

The stability test for the newest addition, the U7, took place at Zhangjiakou Ningyuan Airport in Hebei, where the Yangwang U7 was driven on an asphalt track scattered with randomly placed speed bumps of varying heights—30 mm, 40 mm, and 50 mm.

During the test, a Wing Chun master stood atop the Yangwang U7, balancing on one leg as the car navigated speed bumps at 15 km/h (9 mph). Wing Chun, a Southern Chinese Kung Fu style focused on self-defense, requires exceptional stability—mirroring the role of the U7’s Disus-Z suspension system, which worked to keep the car steady throughout the challenge.

With four independent e-motors, each wheel of the Yangwang U7 operates separately. BYD states that the Disus-Z system detects road conditions in real-time and adjusts the suspension accordingly.

The Yangwang U7, like other models in the lineup, features an 800V architecture and supports up to 500 kW fast charging, adding 300 km (186 miles) of range in just 10 minutes. In addition to the all-electric version, BYD will also release a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant.

BYD’s “God’s Eye” powers Yangwang U7 with Level 2 autonomy

The Yangwang U7 is equipped with BYD’s advanced “God’s Eye,” a driving assistance system. This system includes three Lidars, five radars, 13 high-definition cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, enabling Level 2 self-driving capabilities. It will feature ADAS functions such as Navigate on Autopilot (NOA).

In April 2023, BYD introduced the Disus series, a groundbreaking set of body control systems designed to elevate driving comfort and stability. The series launched with three distinct variants, each tailored to different performance needs.

The Chinese EV giant recently introduced the Disus-Z, the latest addition to its Disus family of body control systems. The Disus-Z will debut in the Yangwang U7, making it the first car to feature this advanced system. The latest variant of the system builds on the innovations of its predecessors, offering even greater performance and stability.
