Malanje - Angola will take over the chairmanship of the Great Lakes Parliamentary Forum (PF-IGLR) in April for a one-year term, the speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, announced Friday in Malanje.
Speaking during a meeting with the local Deputy Governor for the Political, Economic and Social Sector, Franco Mufinda, the speaker said the transfer of portfolios from Zambia, which currently holds the rotating presidency, to Angola would take place during the 15th plenary session, scheduled for April this year in Luanda.
The Angolan Parliament Speaker said the assumption of the presidency is a satisfactory achievement for the country and the result of the actions carried out in the region.
The ICGLR-FP is an inter-parliamentary organization that brings together the national parliaments of the 12 member states of the ICGLR, namely Angola, Burundi, Congo, Central African Republic (CAR), Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.
Established on December 4, 2008, in Kigali, Rwanda, following the signing of the Inter-Parliamentary Agreement, it is composed of the Plenary Assembly, the Bureau of the Plenary Assembly, the Conference of Presidents, the Executive Committee, the Commissions and the General Secretariat.
Angola was officially invited to become a member of the Parliamentary Forum of the Conference of the Great Lakes Region in January 2013 and joined the body in November 2014.PBC/DAN/AMP
