MEMBERS of Keighley and Bradford Bangladeshi community came together to mark their homeland's 55th Independence Day.

A flag-raising ceremony was staged in Centenary Square, Bradford.

And a reception was hosted by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Beverley Mullaney.

Guests included dignitaries and community leaders.

The event was organised by Keighley-based Eden Community Association, ISSE Ltd and Councillor Fulzar Ahmed.

Speakers voiced their pride at the accomplishments of British Bangladeshis and highlighted the unifying role community cohesion plays in the district.

There was a silent tribute for those who gave their lives for Bangladesh's independence.

Councillor Ashraf Miah, community development director at Eden Community Association, said: "Bangladesh Independence Day is a time for our community to come together, honour our heritage and celebrate the remarkable achievements of our home nation. It's an opportunity to reflect on our history while also looking ahead to a future built on unity, progress and cultural pride."
