MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee softball took down the Kennesaw State Owls 5-1 in the series finale to complete the sweep and move back to .500 in Conference USA play.
The Blue Raiders (17-19, 6-6) dominated Kennesaw State (9-27, 0-12) from start to finish, never trailing in the game.
Ava Brooks got things started for MTSU with a solo home run in the second inning, her third of the season.
The Owls kept the Blue Raiders in check until the fifth inning, when
Leila Ammon slugged her first career home run.
Lilly Pendergrast followed with an RBI single, scoring
Emmaline Whitt.
Ava Brooks then crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and
Addy Edgmon capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly that brought in Pendergrast, giving MTSU a 5-0 lead. Kennesaw State pushed across a run in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough, as MTSU secured the 5-1 victory.
When asked about her first career home run, Ammon said the following: "Before stepping to the plate, Lexi (Medlock) told me to go yard and that helped ease my emotions. I was happy to be able to put up another run for my team."
The Blue Raider pitching staff kept the Owls' offense in check with a combined effort from
Tori Coffman,
Mary Martinez, and Ammon. The trio limited KSU to eight hits and zero earned runs. Coffman, who started the game, earned the win, and improved her record to 7-4.

Macie Harter shined at the plate, hitting .556 with a .778 slugging percentage.
Jana Want posted a .500 batting average while drawing five walks. On the mound, Martinez led the team with seven innings pitched, allowing no earned runs.
