ITHACA, N.Y. – The Boston University women's rowing program opened its season with dominant wins over Cornell and George Washington on Cayuga Lake. BU finished ahead of its foe in every race with the Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+ and Second Varsity 4+ competing twice on Saturday.

Against Cornell, the Varsity 8+ kicked off the competition as BU finished in 6:41.7. The boat was coxed by senior Audrey Lucerne and stroked by freshman Sotiria Angou and finished 3.2 seconds ahead of the Big Red. In the Second Varsity 8+, coxed by senior Kennedy Walker and stroked by senior Nina Palmer, BU finished in 7:01.58, nearly 14 seconds ahead of Cornell.

The next race was the Varsity 4+, coxed by junior Valeria Lizarraga Ramirez and stroked by senior Lily McSweeney. The Terriers turned in a time of 7:57.3, which was 21 seconds ahead of Cornell. In the final race of the morning, the Second Varsity 4+ finished in 7:47.75 to complete BU's sweep against the Big Red. The boat was coxed by freshman Molly Bernardo and stroked by sophomore Elisabeth Arnason.

In the afternoon session, BU dominated in its races against George Washington. Beginning with the Second Varsity 4+, coxed by Bernardo and stroked by Aranson, BU finished 48 seconds ahead of GW with a time of 8:23.55 for BU's largest margin of victory of the day. The Varsity 4+, coxed by Lizarraga Ramirez and stroked by McSweeney, finished in a time of 8:20.17. They were 25.27 seconds ahead of George Washington in the race.

The Second Varsity 8+ raced next. The boat, coxed by Walker and stroked by Palmer, turned in a time of 7:12.48 and had a 24.35-second lead on GW. In BU's final race of the day, the Varsity 8+ raced to a 7:13.91 and were just under nine seconds ahead of GW. The Terriers were coxed by Lucerne and stroked by Angou.

BU will shift its attention to Saturday (April 5) when it takes on Northeastern and Dartmouth on the Charles River.
