England's largest festival of history and culture will return to Gosport in September.

Heritage Open Days (HODs) will feature free events across the country from September 12 to September 21.

The annual event aims to "bring people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history."

Since 1992, when Gosport ran the first trial events, the town has been involved every year.

Organisers are now seeking volunteers to "give guided walks, interesting talks, open heritage buildings or greet the public".

The 2025 festival will be centred on an architecture theme.

Terry Rhodes, chairman of Gosport Heritage Open Days, said: "Last year it was fabulous to have so many people wanting to get involved and create new events along our connections and transport theme.

"With so many forts, bastions, Georgian buildings and interesting architecture we hope even more people will get involved with this architecture theme."
