Fans beg beloved star Drew Dober to retire after gruesome KO defeat at UFC Mexico City

Drew Dober’s latest defeat had fans pleading with him to hang up his gloves to prevent any more damage.

The American is beloved with fans, and is known for having an impressive chin. But within two minutes of his UFC Mexico City co-main event clash with Manuel Torres, Dober was flailing at the legs, seemingly unconscious for his third KO or TKO defeat in the octagon.

Dober was on a knockout win streak until the summer of 2023, when he faced Matt Frevola at UFC 288 in Newark. He was stopped that night, and aside from one win has lost his last three, two of which were knockouts.

Drew Dober was knocked out by Manuel Torres in late stoppage controversy

There wasn’t much time to take in what was happening in the UFC Mexico City co-main event as within 90 seconds, Drew Dober had been dropped by Manuel Torres. As the American shot for the legs almost through muscle memory alone, he was hammered with punches.

Torres managed to land 15 strikes unanswered before referee Mike Beltran eventually decided to call of proceedings. It was an outlandishly late stoppage, but Dober still complained after the fact before eventually admitting defeat.

The loss marks Dober’s fourth in five, three of which are stoppages albeit one coming from a cut. As recently as last summer he was winning Fight of the Night bonuses, but it appears that time may be catching up to him as he now boasts 15 defeats.

Fans beg Drew Dober to retire after brutal KO

Dober is beloved by fans for his exciting fight style and famously granite chin, but it seems that his defences may be waining as he hits the latter part of his thirties. He has won eight performance bonuses in his UFC career, indicating an intriguing fan-friendly brawler.

However, those same fans are keen for him to stay healthy, with one writing on social media: “My mental health really can’t handle watching Drew Dober lose any more fights, man. Especially not like that. Damn bro.”

There was a general feeling that he should hang up the gloves, presumably after a stint in hospital following the fight. “Drew Dober used to have a granite chin,” one commenter wrote. “Unfortunately it looks like it’s time for him to retire.
