CLEVELAND, Ohio – Concerns over possible botulism contamination have led to a New York company’s recall of juice.

Walker’s Wine Juice of Forestville, New York, has recalled pumpkin juice after concerns that it may be contaminated with the potentially fatal form of food poisoning.

The juice was distributed through Walker’s retail store in New York and supplied to a limited number of commercial wineries in several states, including Ohio as well as Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Recalled products

• 2.5-gallon bag in box and 5-gallon hot pack labeled “pumpkin.”

• 30-, 60- and 275-gallon bulk containers labeled “pumpkin.”

All lots are subject to the recall.

No illnesses related to this issue have been reported. New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors identified the potential contamination, finding the juice’s pH level was above acceptable limits and inadequate processing steps were taken.

Consumers are encouraged to contact the company for guidance on disposing the product and to discuss reimbursement.

Symptoms of botulism can include general weakness, dizziness, double vision and difficulties in speaking or swallowing. Individuals experiencing symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.
