Winston Merrick Charged In Roosevelt Field Mall Road Rage

A Bronx man is accused of pointing a loaded gun at a teenager and a woman during a road rage incident in East Garden City, Nassau County police announced on Friday, April 4.

Officers responded to the Roosevelt Field Mall parking lot at 630 Old Country Road around 7:05 p.m. after a 17-year-old male victim and a 41-year-old female victim reported that a man in a black Honda Pilot threatened them with a firearm, according to detectives.

The suspect allegedly brandished a black handgun, placing the teen in fear for his life, before fleeing westbound on Old Country Road, authorities said. The victims immediately called police.

Following an investigation, officers identified the driver as Winston Merrick, 45, of 100 Caslas Place in the Bronx. He was taken into custody without incident, investigators said. A loaded Glock 26 was recovered during his arrest.

Merrick has been charged with two counts of Menacing 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree. His preliminary arraignment was scheduled for Saturday, April 5, at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.

No injuries were reported.
