(Trinidad Guardian) The father of Trinidad-born British citizen Zaheer Esat who was abducted in broad daylight after leaving a mosque in Central Trinidad on Friday is appealing to his son’s kidnappers to release him.

In a telephone interview yesterday, the 70-year-old father said his son’s kidnappers have not contacted him, and said he suffers from asthma and needs his inhaler.

Esat came to Trinidad just before Eid-ul-Fitr to visit his parents.

Esat, 46, his father and brother-in-law had just left the Bejucal Mosque and was heading home in a black Nissan Note, driving along Warren Road when a vehicle blocked their path as they neared the Southern Main Road intersection, around 1. 50pm. An occupant from the vehicle armed with a rifle approached, ordered them to lower their heads and forced Esat from the back seat into the other vehicle.

Esat did not have his phone in his possession, police said.

Esat’s father, who asked that his name be withheld, said he had no idea why his son was taken since they had no enemies.

“So far nobody call yet, that’s worrying me,” he said, adding, “It’s very difficult. I can’t describe how I am feeling.”

Pleading with the kidnappers not to hurt his son, the father had this important message for them.

“My son suffers from asthma. He can’t do without the inhaler.” He said his son also needs to be kept hydrated.  Noting that East is his only son, the father of three said they have been praying that he would return to them soon.

“Anyone with any information please tell the police to help us find our son,” he pleaded. The father added that he was pleased with the response of the Cunupia Police and Anti-Kidnapping Unit officers and thanked them for their kindness and assistance.
