2025 Ford F-150 can do hard work but still be comfortable

The multifaceted popular pickup meets the needs of many different buyers.

Something being hugely popular in the United States doesn’t necessarily mean that the something is objectively great. In fact it could even indicate that the something is awful.

The Ford F-Series pickup has been the best-selling truck in the U.S. for 48 years, and the best-selling vehicle overall for 43 years. In this truck’s case, the enormous popularity is well-earned.

The Ford F-150 offers a bountiful supply of cab styles, bed lengths, trims, engines, features, and options. A maximum towing capacity of 13,500 pounds makes it best-in-class for a half-ton pickup, and its 2,445-pound payload capacity is among the highest.

I drove a 2025 Ford F-150 4×4 SuperCrew XLT model equipped with a full hybrid powertrain composed of a 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 engine, an electric motor, and a 10-speed automatic transmission. The towing capacity for this setup is 12,700 pounds.

With its 430 horsepower, 570 pound-feet of torque, and EPA rating of 22/24/23 mpg, the hybrid is the most powerful and most fuel-efficient powertrain in the F-150 lineup. Please be advised that the high-performance Raptor and Raptor R models are not included in these stats since they’re in a maniacal league of their own.

The F-150’s ability as a formidable workhorse seems hard to believe when experiencing the cushy environment inside the cab. A calm ride and easy maneuverability contribute to the truck’s suitability as a friendly daily driver, not just a Trojan.

Bins, cubbies, slots, trays, and other stowage spaces are positioned everywhere possible and then some. That might be a strict minimalist’s nightmare but to me it was heaven.

F-150’s 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system is sophisticated but easy to use. Large, handy knobs are included to make matters even better.

Along with its many standard features, my test truck took advantage of the F-150’s comprehensive list of optional equipment by adding a twin panel moonroof, a power-sliding rear window, eight-speaker Bang and Olufsen sound system, wireless charging pad, FX4 off-road package, a helpful retractable rear center step, bed utility package (tailgate step and work surface), and a mobile office package.

That last feature allows you to fold down the shifter and armrest to create a flat surface for laptops, clipboards and other items, or to paint your nails.
