Two men underwent treatment at a local hospital following a two vehicle auto accident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 96 and Farm to Market Road 2245, commonly known as "Roganville Road", between Jasper and Kirbyville.

Firemen from both the Roganville and Kirbyville Fire Departments, along with other emergency personnel were dispatched to the location shortly after 2:00 pm, when it was reported that the accident involving a fully loaded eighteen wheeled log truck and an early model Lincoln sedan had occurred.

Sargent Shana Clark of the Texas Department of Pubic Safety said that an investigation had revealed that the 2024 Peterbilt was traveling north on U.S. 96 when a 2007 Lincoln passenger car, which was traveling west on FM-2245 failed to stop at the stop sign and pulled out in front of the truck.

Officers said that after hitting the Lincoln in the rear, the truck went into the median area of the highway and turned over scattering the logs all over the roadway.

The driver of the Peterbilt, 34-year-old Jarius Dunham of Huntington, and the driver of the Lincoln, 94-year-old William Hale of Roganville, were both taken ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital where they were treated for what was said to be minor injuries.

The northbound lane of the highway finally reopened  shortly after 4:00 after the logs and wreckage were cleared from the highway.
