The future of a former Leicestershire betting shop has been revealed after new proposals were approved. Agents have hailed the site as being in a "prominent" town centre location.

The old Coral betting shop at 72, The Parade, in Oadby, was a key part of the town centre before it closed. Since the unit became vacant, a licensed betting shop, Jennings bet at 43, trades directly opposite, but the future of the former Coral unit has now been secured.

Plans from TM Trustees to redevelop the unit to a shop have now been greenlit by officials at Oadby and Wigston Borough Council (OWBC). Described as a single retail unit application, the area of the shop is 90sq m, while there is no parking on site.

As a condition of the planning permission, OWBC said that before any work related to the building's change of use begins, they must be formally notified of the date when it will start being used for its new purpose. Internal plans show a sales area while a staff area is also clearly marked.

There is no information included in the plans as to what type of shop the premises is likely to be. Plans do not include any residential units.

The unit is now being marketed by Andrew and Ashwell, who have the lease up for "a period to be agreed" at an annual rent of £18,000. The agents said: "The property occupies a prominent mid-terraced position along The Parade, Oadby, a popular shopping parade approximately three miles south of Leicester city centre. Nearby occupiers include Subway, Specsavers, Holland and Barrett, and Marks & Spencer.

The property is described as a "Ground floor mid-terraced retail unit of traditional brick construction with glazed frontage on to The Parade". The unit is described as having an open plan retail area, with staff facilities at the rear including toilets and a kitchenette.

Details state that parking for the public is available along The Parade and via "large car parks to the east and west of the property".
