A search of a car in southern Canberra on the weekend resulted in the discovery of explosives, drugs, ammunition and weapons, police say.
Police found a white Mazda 2 in a car park at the Erindale shops in Wanniassa on Sunday afternoon (13 April), an ACT Policing spokesperson said.
That night, officers were able to execute a search warrant on the vehicle, resulting in them finding and seizing a number of illegal items.
This included a machete, a taser, two shotgun cartridges, 10 rounds of .22 ammunition and a small amount of cocaine.
Police also found 300 grams of ammonium nitrate, which is a chemical compound that can be used as an explosive, in a pipe.
Lastly, they found about 260 grams of methamphetamine, which police said equated to about 2600 ‘hits’ of the drug.
“At this time no charges have been laid and enquiries into the seized items are continuing,” the police spokesperson said.
If you can assist police with information about the illegal sale and distribution of drugs in the ACT, contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
