Operational Updates

• WFP STP took part in a conference convened on 4 June 2018 with the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and other development partners in Sao Tome and Principe. The AfDB President presented opportunities for the Bank in STP. Each participating agency shared information about its activities in the country before highlighting partnership opportunities.

• The country office attended the official inauguration ceremony of the Photovoltaic Solar System of the UN House in Sao Tome on 5 June 2018. WFP is involved in this innovative project that was designed to reduce the consumption of non-renewable energies and pollution in STP, and to stimulate the consumption of the environmental friendly resources.

• From 24 to 26 June 2018, the country office welcomed the WFP regional director, M. Abdou Dieng. Together with the country director, they paid courtesy visits and held meetings with the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the President of the National Assembly, members of the Government and other development partners.

• After meeting with the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister who expressed their interest in continuing to benefit from WFP technical assistance, WFP took the decision to continue the approval process of the STP Country Strategic Plan 2019-2023. The Government committed to provide USD 1 million to support the school meals programme.

• On 26 June, the country office organized a staff retreat to review the 2018 mid-year annual performance plan and to conduct the 2018 midyear evaluation of the Minimum Preparedness Actions (MPAs) and key performance indicators (KPI) for the country.
