As many as 476,751 passenger cars were registered in Kazakhstan in January-July, which is 70 percent more than in the same period of 2017, according to the Committee on Statistics under the Kazakh Ministry of National Economy.

As of August 1, 2018, the number of registered cars in Kazakhstan amounted to over 3.9 billion units. In the reporting period, 8,201 road accidents were recorded, which is 6.6 percent less than a year earlier. In this regard, 11,621 people were injured.

In January-July of the current year, insurance organizations for compulsory insurance of civil liability of vehicle owners made 38,175 insurance payments amounting to 14.2 billion tenge.

The dynamics of transactions in the automotive market of Kazakhstan continues to testify to the tendency of "aging" of the country's car fleet. Moreover, car production in Kazakhstan decreased by 14 percent in August.

In the last summer month, 2,219 vehicles of all types worth 13,959 billion tenge were produced, that is 14.2 percent less than in July. This is the most modest result for the current year. Kazakh automakers against the background of currency fluctuations slowed down production.

Over eight months of 2018, more than 19,000 cars worth 117.7 billion tenge ($ 318.1 million) were produced in the country.

Car manufacturing is growing at an unprecedented rate in Kazakhstan and significant expansion is planned in the coming years. Kazakhstan’s automotive industry’s contribution to GDP in 2017 made up 39 percent. According to the Vice-President of the Association of Kazakhstan’s Automotive Business, there is a growth in domestic production volumes and sales. Every third car sold in Kazakhstan is domestically manufactured.
