A Kilmarnock man who tried to steal two cars while drunk has appeared in court.

Brian Anderson pleaded guilty to attempting to force open two vehicles on June 28.

The prosecutor told Kilmarnock Sheriff Court how police spotted 45-year-old Anderson “staggering in an intoxicated state” on Robertson Place in Kilmarnock.

He approached a Peugeot 307 and looked in the windows of the car before attempting to open the front and rear passenger doors.

He then moved towards a Renault Scenic and but was stopped when officers approached him and he made off.

The fiscal depute said: “He was apprehended a short distance later. He was arrested, cautioned and charged and made no reply.”

Anderson, of Tourhill Road, had also pleaded guilty to two charges of breaking his bail conditions.

Addressing him, Sheriff Alastair Watson said: “If you’re back on the drugs you’re going to have to get yourself off them. I’m giving you a chance here and it’s up to you if you take it or not.”

Anderson was placed under supervision for a period of 18 months and ordered to completed 130 hours of unpaid work.

Sheriff Watson added: “If you breach the order you are almost certainly going to prison.”
